SPECIAL PROCESSES – THE PROCESS OF PAINTING – cap. 4
Choice of paintbinders or resins for water-soluble or solvent cycle:
One of the most important components of the paint we’re going to investigate the following is the resin or better known as “bonding”, as it attaches to the lining over the chemical, physical and mechanical properties.
The types of binders which we will describe the find in the most important cycles of application of coating products that are:
Cycle water-soluble or solvent;
Cycle powder.
We briefly describe some of the characteristics of most binders used for the composition of paints, water-soluble or solvent per cycle (in polish).
acrylic resins;
The paint product based on acrylic resin, normally apply on a substrate treated with primer. The use of these products we find most in the automotive and household appliances.
Guarantees a good stability of gloss and color, a good light stability and good chemical resistance (hardness of the substrate), but have a poor adhesion to the substrate and a duration in time of less than many other types of resins.
epoxy resins;
The paint product based on epoxy resin can be used through the use of hardener (component bi product). The use of these products we find it more in the industrial sector. The use of these products is not suitable for applications intended for outdoor use.
Ensures a good adhesion, good chemical resistance and corrosion, but they have a poor stability of gloss and color and a duration limited in time when used in outdoor locations.
polyurethane resins;
The paint product based on polyurethane resin can be used through the use of hardener (component bi product). The latter, allows the hardening of the paint and the acquisition of chemical and mechanical characteristics.
The use of these products we find it more in industry.
Guarantees a good abrasion resistance, good stability and durability of the color, but have a poor resistance to moisture.
polyester resins
The paint product based on polyester resin can be used through the use of hardener (component bi product). The latter, allows the hardening of the paint and the acquisition of chemical and mechanical characteristics.
The use of these products is indicated for applications intended outside, as artifacts for architecture, agricultural machinery, etc..
Ensures a good UV resistance, good mechanical properties, good corrosion resistance (on a support well pretreatment), a high resistance to chemical agents.
As already said, the binders or resins can also reach 40% of the total weight of the product. The remaining part is usually composed of:
Solvents or diluents:
volatile compounds, added before application, to improve the application
Pigments:
insoluble substances, colored or not colored
Charges
inert materials used as fillers
Additives:
Catalysts, driers.
