SPECIAL PROCESSES – THE PROCESS OF PAINTING – cap. 3
Choice of coating:
The choice of the coating should be done in careful manner, since a direct impact on the final performance, Appearance, weathering resistance, Chemical resistance, on application techniques, spray (enamel) or electrodeposition (powder), and hence the cost the entire process.
Usually the performance required of a paint product are:
Resistance to environmental conditions and operating
duration
Flexibility and abrasion resistance
Excellent resistance to the removal of graphite
Taking into account the “performance”, let’s see some peculiarities of coatings such as, categories, features, components “resins”.
Categories of coating materials;
Those most used are:solvent-based powder
Characteristics of coating materials;
The classification as a result of the characteristics required of a coating, are essentially:
color
finish
Adhesion to the substrate
Physical and mechanical properties
Resistance to chemicals
Resistance to corrosion
durability
Main components of coatings;
Among the main components the most important one is the resin, not only for its quantity which can reach even 40% of the weight, but in that it confers to the coating the chemical, mechanical, physical.
The resins are usually used for the composition of the coatings are:
acrylic resins
epoxy resins
polyurethane resins
amino resins
polyester resins, saturated – unsaturated
phenolic resins
As an important part of our process, in the next chapter we further uses and application of various coating products.
