The correct managing of a configuration  reports the configuration of a product and its elements, they are important information to determine the status of the configuration of the product; it gives the possibility to trace back the status of satisfaction of the technical, physical and functional requirements and the possibility to trace back  this information.
The configuration provides a guide for the managing the configuration  by including the planning, the indentification of the configuration, the checking on eventual  modifications made and the audit of the configuration.
‘The organization should identify and trace the responsability  and the  authorities relating to the realization and the analyses of the rpocess of managing of the configuration.’
Analyses that must be don when tha status of configuration si defined:
– Complexity and nature of the product /service that is supplied
– Phases of the cycle for realizing the product/service
– Process of the managing of the configuration
– External and internal interfaces that may be interested to define the status of the configuration
– The Authority that is involved to decide inside the organization
Before approving a modification, the deciding authority should verify that:
– the suggested modification is essential and the effects are acceptable
– the modification is efficiently verified and recorded
– the planned attivity for the realization of the modification in the documents, the hardware and/or software are satisfying
The process of the managing of the configuration should concentrate on the requirements of the customer and its managing process of the configuration should be described in all details ina a plan called ‘ plan of the management of the configuration’.
But what conclusion must bring with a planning of the management of the configuration?
The result that must be obtained is the ‘ plan of the management of the configuration’.
The configuration of a product and its eventual modifications must consider the following items:
– requirements, rules and nroms
– analyses of the seriousness and of the risk and security  features
– new technologies in the planning
– specifications of supplying
– description, motivation and recording of modifications
– classification of the modifications
– evaluation of the impact of the modifications
– details of the modifications
– managing of the modifications and their verificationin the realization.
The audit of the configuration must take place in conformity to the the procedures and in general terms two types of audit exist:
–   verification of the realization of the functional characteristics
–   verification in obtaining the physical characteristics
